Okay, since Mo and Grace will not be around for the week and there wouldn’t be a regular Good times show, I thought that it’d be a great idea if we could pretend that they’re around and I’ll blog about the show as if they were there…

Does that make sense? Hehe…

Ehem… and so on to the imaginary show’s highlights: ๐Ÿ™‚

Boy wreaks havoc at Australian zoo

Mo normally starts the show for the kiddies who are listening to the show on their way to school and so he talked about a 7 year old boy who broke into an Australian outback zoo and fed a string of small animals to its resident saltwater crocodile.

Apparently, security camera footage at the Alice Springs Reptile Center showed the smiling youngster also bludgeoning to death a small blue tongue lizard and two more thorny devils during a half-hour of breakfast-time havoc last Wednesday. The parents were nowhere to be found during the kid’s playtime errr killtime…

Mojo and Grace were outraged at the action of the boy and blamed the parents… Apparently, the parents were busy making out in the zoo’s loo to notice that their kid was missing…

Miguel chimed in and said that the kid must’ve drunk too much Royal True Orange coz “nasobrahan sa kulit”…

Mo wondered if the kid was the offspring of Chuckie, the malevolent killer doll who married another killer doll in the movie “The bride of Chuckie”…

Non-virgin indicators

Mo asked the show’s listeners for some more non-virgin indicators aside from permanent tattoos, heavy smoking and thumb rings when Benj, the blog owner of the Good times with Mo wordpress blog, finally got through the phonelines of the show and chimed in his opinion that a sure indicator of non-virginity are piercings, you know, bellybutton piercings and tongue piercings…

I mean, come on, if you’re willing to get yourself pierced in those areas, you must have been pierced in other strategic areas already, right?

Mo agreed and thanked him for doing such a good job on the blog and allowed him to greet Khalesh, Marie, Chi and Carol on-air… hehehe (well, it is an imaginary blog, right?)

Get me out of here

Mo talked about this great website that he found after he came from his dog poo expedition in Eastwood, the site called “Get me out of here” or http://getmooh.com is perfect if you love playing pranks just like Mo Twister or if you just need to escape from a boring meeting or a blind date gone horribly wrong…

The site’s premise is that you enter your phone number (or the number of the person you’re punking), select a pre-recorded message, set the date and time you want the call to come through and voila!, the system gives you or your victim a call on the date and time specified…

You can select emergencies, funny calls or even scary calls for your intended victim… You can also preview the messages to select which one you’d like…

Happy pranking, hehe…

Nonoy the Menggoy

Nonoy the Menggoy, Magic 89.9’s resident version of Michael Buffer, had a sing off with one of my favorite blog readers, Khalesh, for the right to own a brand spanking new Magic Sing (Manny Pacquiao edition)…

Normally it was Mojo Jojo who represents the Good times show for these sing offs, but for some perverse reason, Mo chose Nonoy to carry the flag of the GTWM gang…

Mo impersonated Simon Cowell, Grace played ditzy Paula Abdul, while Mojo gave his version of a gay Randy Jackson… Miguel was at home as Ryan Seacrest…

After a series of gruelling (on the ears) renditions by Nonoy of Paul Potts’ classics such as “Nessun Dorma” and Freddie Aguilar’s Anak… my man Khalesh prevailed with a series of songs by Josh Groban sung with an Indian accent!

Way to go Khalesh… Let’s have some videoke sessions with your new Magic Sing, ok? ๐Ÿ™‚

Congratulations!

Well, that’s the show for today, I hope you enjoyed it!

Till next time, I’m out of here…

Good times!

My man Mo Twister was out today due to illness… I know that Mo’s the consummate professional so he must be sicker than a dog to miss the show, so it was only Mojo, Grace and Miguel doing the Good Times show… The show itself was relatively quiet… It was feel good Monday, from the callers to the hosts, everyone was a little too nice…

You know that Mo’s out when there’s less talk and more music, not to mention a ton of plugs and commercials… Although I know that Mojo and Grace were trying their best to keep the show entertaining, it just wasn’t quite there… Even the phone lines weren’t that busy, I guess it’s hard for the listeners to contribute if there’s no specific topic being discussed, mostly it was just hi’s and hellos… Sorry guys, just being honest here…The good thing about Mo is that he always comes to the show prepared, with research and notes on what topics are to be discussed for a specific day…

While the show was just okay, Miguel’s interview with “Avril Lavigne” in the playground was hilarious… I mean this guy has a serious future in broadcasting… Bright and articulate, he’ll definitely go places… Some more years of mentoring from Mo and he’ll be hosting his own show on Magic!

Other hightlights were two female callers from the US with weird accents (heavy Visayan?) and though they seemed genuine callers, a lot of the listeners thought they were pranksters out to make fun of the trio… Although I wouldn’t put it past Mo to have thought of the prank and have them call in, hehehe… Caller Khalesh suggested that they would make a perfect foil to Nonoy the Menggoy and they could do a recital of a Shakespearean play… MacBeth would be perfect or perhaps Romeo and Juliet? ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh by the way, the new word that Mojo learned in Bacolod? It’s “agi” meaning gay! ๐Ÿ™‚

On a more serious note, I “just happened” to switch to Showbizย  Central and heard the news that Mo’s daughter Moira with Bunny Paras is ill from a neurological disorder and has been having some problems walking… I felt sad when I heard the news and I hope that Mo’s daughter gets well soon… Our prayers are with you and your daughter, Mo…

Well I hope that Mo’s well enough to work tomorrow, our favorite radio show is not quite the same without him…

Get well soon Mohan!

Up next, the greatest moment on radio!

I’m out of here…

Good times!

Good times with Mo (Sept. 3, 2008)

The show was relatively quiet today, nothing too controversial… ๐Ÿ™‚

Best battle speeches

Mo started off with a debate or poll on the topic of which movie had the best or most inspiring battle speeches. He narrowed the choices to:

  1. Gladiator
  2. 300
  3. Lord of the Rings
  4. Braveheart

Grace liked 300, Mojo liked Gladiator while my man Mo picked Braveheart. I thought for sure that Mojo would go for 300 just for the sheer number of ridiculously toned abs in that movie… ๐Ÿ™‚ I’d have to concur with Mo though that Mel Gibson’s role as William Wallace is outstanding and his battle speech makes one want to pick up a sword and charge into battle. There’s something quite visceral and intensely personal about sword and shield battles which simply cannot be matched with today’s modern shoot-em-ups…

Rich girls dating poor guys

Another interesting topic thrown around by Mo is his theory that rich girls don’t date poor guys. He believes that the reverse is quite common, meaning, poor girls, particularly good looking ones, do date rich guys…Poor Grace served as the butt of Mo’s jokes this time around, with him implying that she was a high maintenance girlfriend… Grace’s boyfriend is a businessman (read – rich)… ๐Ÿ™‚

Several listeners called in to disprove Mo’s theory, including a hot sounding girl, SAM, who claimed to be well off and had dated a couple of poor guys. She cited several problems which led to her breakups with the poor guys, including socializing problems, meaning the guys felt out of place in the girl’s circle of elitista friends… Another cause of dissent were the guys’ insecurity about money matters. I think realistically speaking these are issues which may crop up in a relationship of that sort…

Funny thing though was that the girl, SAM,ย  was very aloof and seemed indifferent to Mo’s questioning which really drove the Professor nuts… I mean, I was counting the seconds till he’d hang up on the girl and tell her off but for some reason he couldn’t do that… The girl was too interesting and she seemed totally honest about her experiences… Our Professor Mo being bested by a girl? No way in hell, but that’s what happened, hehe.. Kudos to SAM!

Voiceover king dies

You’ve heard his voice in hundreds of movie trailers but you probably never even knew who that “voice” was… His name is Don LaFontaine and his famous opening line “In a world where…” opened countless movie trailers from the hottest movies to piss poor flops. You can read the story here.

I got a good chuckle when Mohan Gumatay nominated “NONOY the MENGGOY” as a replacement for Don LaFontaine… Imagine the upcoming “Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince” movie trailer being intro’d by NONOY… Sheeshh… Good times!

Paul Potts interview

The show’s highlight would probably be Paul Potts’ interview done by Grace Lee and Mojo Jojo. The guy is amazingly talented and his story is truly inspirational. Let’s be honest, Paul Potts is not much to look at but once he sings, you’ll forget all about his looks. Now, I’m not the biggest opera fan, but watching and listening to Paul Potts singing transcends musical preferences and boundaries. As Simon Cowell said, he loves shows where an ordinary guy blessed with extraordinary talent does good…

I’ve posted a video of Paul’s audition above on the British reality show, Britain’s Got Talent and I’ll let you be the judge… Paul will be performing here in Manila at the PICC Plenary Hall, October 8, at 8 in the evening…

If you want to listen to Paul’s interview this morning on the Good Times show, I uploaded an excerpt which you can download here

Till next episode…

I’m out of here… Good times!
